What to normalize, what to support, who supports? Dialogue Forum as part of the Postnatal rEvolution Summit: January 2025
Birth professionals, doulas, researchers, policymakers, parents, yoga teachers, or psychologists are welcome to share your insights and ideas on the fourth trimester. Collectively, we will create the building blocks that we will use to develop a Call for Action at the In-Person Event on February 1st, 2025 in Amsterdam.
The Dialogue Forum (16-17 Jan., 2025) will be focused on five predefined postpartum topics:
1. Physiological Postpartum Reality
Mothers experience a drastic change in their bodies after the pregnancy. It includes hormonal changes, uterine healing, lactation, and shifts in physical energy levels. This working group will discuss these physiological changes and the need for (what) education and support.
2. Emotional and Psychological Challenges
The postpartum period brings emotional highs and lows, including hormonal mood swings, baby blues, and the potential for postpartum depression (PPD) or anxiety (PPA). The group will share ideas, questions, and insights on what went well and where we can improve.
3. Social/Practical Empowerment
Social and practical postpartum empowerment involves creating a supportive environment to meet daily needs and reduce feelings of isolation. How to ensure an engaged and supporting informal network?
4. Informed Choice
Informed choice ensures that parents have access to accurate, unbiased information to make decisions about their postpartum care and parenting practices. What care provider provides what information?
5. Back to Work
Returning to work postpartum involves balancing professional responsibilities with the physical, emotional, and logistical demands of new parenthood. How to relate to employers and work policies?
Parallel to the online event, enthusiastic birth professionals organise their own local in person forum. This in-person event is a great opportunity to engage your network, share ideas and make local connections.
On the 16th and 17th of January, 2025, there will be many in-person forums happening in the Netherlands (The Hague, Eindhoven, Zutphen), but also in Portugal, Switzerland, the Dominican Republic, and more.
If you are inspired to organize yours, simply reply to this email. We thank you for your contribution to the Postnatal rEvolution!
