Special Announcement

Dear Reader,

We are thrilled to announce that news of the Postpartum Call to Action: Postpartum, A Critical Window in Women’s Health has just been published in the Journal of Prenatal & Perinatal Psychology & Health (JOPPPAH), Fall 2025 issue.

This publication marks a major milestone for our movement. JOPPPAH is the official peer-reviewed journal of the Association for Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health (APPPAH). For over four decades, JOPPPAH has been a leading international platform for scholarship that integrates psychology, health sciences, birth work, and human development from preconception through early childhood. Having the Call to Action appear in this journal ensures that postpartum issues are brought to the forefront of academic, clinical, and policy discussions worldwide.

🌍 About the Call to Action

The Call to Action emerged from the Postnatal rEvolution Summit (2024–2025), which gathered voices from 25 countries—clinicians, midwives, doulas, researchers, parents, activists, and policymakers. Through months of listening sessions, collaborative writing, and collective reflection, the document grew into a living testimony of the urgent maternal health crisis and a roadmap for change.
It emphasizes that the postpartum year must be reimagined as a comprehensive, continuous, and culturally safe standard of care.

Key Demands Include:

  • Integrating physical and mental health care for at least one year postpartum
  • Training health professionals in trauma-informed, culturally responsive support
  • Recognizing postpartum mental health as a public health priority
  • Investing in parental leave and flexible work reintegration
  • Strengthening local community support networks
  • Designating research funding for postpartum outcomes and innovations

Why It Matters Now

The evidence is stark:

  • Suicide accounts for up to 26% of maternal deaths worldwide.
  • Many postpartum physical complications remain undetected or untreated.
  • Current global health policies continue to leave families isolated—emotionally, medically, and economically.

By publishing in JOPPPAH, this Call to Action connects advocacy with academic rigor, ensuring that policymakers, clinicians, and researchers alike are called to act.

✨ Join the Movement

We invite you to read the full Call to Action, sign in support, and share it with your networks. Together, we can ensure that every parent receives the care and recognition they deserve.

With gratitude,
The Postnatal Support Network Team
